Product Overview

Johnny always noticed something with smaller paddlers. They always sat too far up from the water, the waterline was always way too short, and it always looked like smaller folks had to work so much harder to move their craft on and off the water. What if they got the leverage to move the canoe more efficiently? What if the canoe cut through water instead of plowing? What if they had a canoe just for them?

A truly no compromise design for smaller paddlers. The design goal for the Cantare was not just to provide a smaller volume canoe, but a canoe designed from the start to finish to work with and for smaller paddlers. Previous models like the Ehukai and Kahele were smaller and thinner than other comparable OC1s, but they were still designed and tested to accommodate paddlers of most sizes. This meant that while the Ehukai and Kahele worked better for lighter paddlers, they would still not sink the canoe enough in order to get the optimal waterline.

The Cantare, built by Outrigger Zone, is lighter (15 lbs. for pro models) with a waterline optimized for people under 165 lbs in rough water and we are learning it can handle even more weight, especially in the flat. It has less surface area in the water, therefore less tension and less drag. With a thinner hull, than even the Kahele, it has less water to push out of the way and is immediately noticeable in the first five strokes. This canoe accelerates faster and works at the consistent race speeds typical of the fastest paddlers on the course. The pedals hinge lower to the bottom of the footwell to accommodate smaller feet and the shorter overall length gives better storage options and better handling off the water.

Inspiration

Does one size does fit all? In most sports, Olympic kayaking, rowing, cycling, skiing, etc. there is different equipment for different athletes depending on athlete size and weight. Our goal with the Cantare was to create a boat for lighter paddlers. Because you deserve a canoe built for you, because fast is fun, because one size does not fit all.

Highlights:

  • An optimized OC1 design that is efficient in both flat and rough water, with less wetted surface area, resulting in less drag and more control. With less volume in the hull when compared to other models, the Cantare hull has a tighter entry and exit.

  • With a lowered deck, the paddler is sitting closer to the water with an improved center of gravity and decreased windage, resulting in more control.

  • Cantare means “to sing” in Italian.

PRO MODEL

The Cantare also comes in the Pro Model at around 15 lbs. (hull weight) plus other upgrades! More info here.
