The Puakea Designs Grip Rudder designed by John Puakea and Billy Robello on Oahu, Hawaii. This rudder is designed for the Kahe Kai and Ehukai OC1 and made by Outrigger Zone.

Billy Robello is a waterman born and raised in Hawaii who also happens to be the nephew of the legendary Duke Kahanamoku. Billy brings with him over 30 years of flat water and open ocean racing experience. Building surfskis, and more recently SUP unlimited race boards, he is still one of the few that shapes everything by hand and has a long history with shaping. Billy's most recent 17 foot racing SUP, raced by Travis Grant in 2015 and Kai Lenny in 2016, came in first in the Molokai to Oahu SUP race. 

Most recently Billy has brought the Grip rudder to Puakea Designs. Billy Robello and Johnny Puakea have been close friends for over 30 years, they competed together in Olympic kayak events and also share the same passion for creating crafts that dominate the paddling world. The Grip rudder is a new and innovative way of looking at how to reduce drag and improve performance in the bump. Team Puakea is looking forward to Billy's design input and performance modifications to our past, current and future products.
